Wimbledon [04 Jul 2008|04:17am]
Ridiculous controversy over a comment Dementieva said in a post match press conference just after Venus beat her. She basically inferred that Richard Williams 'decides' which of his daughters will win the title. She later issued a written statement saying that her English isn't that strong, but still, a totally ridiculous issue to even bring up.

Apparently, the average adult has only read six of the top 100 books.

1) Look at the list and bold those you have read.
2) Italicize those you intend to read.
3) Underline the books you LOVE.
4) Reprint this list in your own LJ so we can try and track down these people who've read 6 and force books upon them.

Who made this list? )

I really have no intention to read any of these in the near future but maybe some time down the line I might pick one up.

Thinking of getting Showtime just so I can watch Billie Piper's new series. She's playing a call girl now? From Doctor's companion to... professional companion. Hm, a lateral move of sorts.

Digital Underground - The Humpty Dance [28 May 2008|11:22pm]
There are very few rap songs that I know the lyrics to by heart. This is one of them. (Warren G's and Nate Dogg's "Regulators" would be another.) Talk about blast from the past...

I Dream in Widescreen. [18 May 2008|11:03am]
On Friday night it was that time again to “Dream in Widescreen”. The UA's School of Media Arts 2008 BFA class films were screened at the Fox Tucson Theatre (for the first time). All previous years that I have attended they screened the students' films at The Loft, but seeing as the place was packed to capacity the last few years they went for a change of venue and landed the Fox, which is a huge bonus for this years graduates (to see their films in such a venue).
Last year there was only one film I really enjoyed (which you can read about here), but this year there were several that piqued my interest.

An interesting point... [03 May 2008|12:23am]
"I was talking with a friend of mine about this the other day: that country life as I knew it might really be a thing of the past and when music people today, performers and fans alike, talk about being "country," they don't mean they know or even care about the land and the life it sustains and regulates. They're talking more about choices---a way to look, a group to belong to, a kind of music to call their own. Which begs a question: Is there anything behind the symbols of modern "country," or are the symbols themselves the whole story? Are the hats, the boots, the pickup trucks, and the honky-tonking poses all that's left of a disintergrating culture? Back in Arkansas, a way of life produced a certain kind of music. Does a certain kind of music now produce a way of life? Maybe that's okay. I don't know."

excited that Sci-Fi will be airing The Sarah Jane Adventures starting in April. and what's this, the new season of Doctor Who as well? so early? (i usually wait until it is released on DVD, like a year after its first broadcast.) its going to be a good spring season for television. especially since all of the other shows i watch are on hiatus till the fall or canceled.

Arthur C. Clarke passes away at the age of 90

Rest in Peace

YouTube video of Sir Clarke regarding his 90th birthday )

An apt description of what reading Sir Clarke's fiction was like for me also-

If you had asked me as a teenager what reading Arthur C. Clarke felt like,
I would have said: “Having my brain pried open and the Universe poured in.”
